At New Music Concerts, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Koerner, a champion of adventurous music, and one of our most passionate and steadfast supporters for decades. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and to the many communities shaped by his vision and generosity.
Michael believed thoroughly in NMC. His endorsement opened many doors: when others saw that Michael Koerner stood behind our work, they knew right away that it carried true artistic value.
He served on the Board of Directors at NMC for well over a decade, and our entire NMC community is grateful for his guidance over many years.
He was often a confidant through the many ups and downs of artistic life. Michael’s entrepreneurial spirit is, to this day, behind our cherished annual matching campaign, encouraging many others to give and helping to build a wider circle of support around adventurous music.
He also had a rare vision: he was one of those exceedingly uncommon people in musical circles who understood that supporting the music of our time really meant supporting the music of the future.
We are honoured to be among the beneficiaries of his generosity for many decades. His instinct, inspiration, and belief in the power of adventurous music will always stay with us.
