Relatives Ensemble – Montréal Premiere

Following its Toronto premiere, the Relatives Ensemble travels to Montréal for its first performance beyond Toronto, presented in partnership with the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ).

Relatives is a brand-new, all-Indigenous new music ensemble led by conductor Danielle Jagelski. Bringing together outstanding performers from across Turtle Island, the ensemble’s artistry reflects the richness and diversity of Indigenous musical voices today. The ensemble features soprano Melody Courage alongside Virginia Sparvier-Wells, Kiegan Ryan, Tara-Louise Montour, Colton Welch, Jesse Plessis, and Lorena Navarro.

For this inaugural project, NMC has commissioned five new works by Pulitzer Prize winner Raven Chacon, Jason Young, Karen Sunabacka, Eliot Britton, and Danielle Jagelski, all receiving their world premieres in Toronto before travelling to Montréal.
